Scaling-up climate action through the circular economy and nature-based solutions

This event will showcase how the integration of circular economy measures and nature-based

solutions move the needle towards providing sustainable and effective solutions to climate change. IRP Co-Chair Izabella Teixeira will present key findings from the International Resource Panel on the potential contribution of resource efficiency to climate mitigation and adaptation. Other speakers will highlight the connections between nature-based solutions and the circular economy and best practices between the EU and Latin America countries.

Launch Event: Summary for Policymakers

“Resource Efficiency and Climate Change Material Efficiency Strategies for a Low-Carbon Future”

Hosted by the Ministry of Environment of Italy, the United Nations Environment Programme and the International Resource Panel, this event will launch the Summary for Policymakers of the IRP report “Resource Efficiency and Climate Change: Material Efficiency Strategies for a Low-Carbon Future”. Results from this assessment will help raise awareness about the critical role of material efficiency strategies in climate mitigation plans and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). This will be the first time that these connections are scientifically drawn at the global level.

Enhancing resource efficiency and reducing material footprint to meet climate commitments

Hosted by the One Planet Network, International Resource Panel and UNFCCC. Speakers at this event will demonstrate the contribution of increased resource efficiency to climate mitigation and the importance of applying resource efficiency policies and strategies to achieve the Paris Agreement goals.  It will showcase the scientific evidence, as well as policies and actions taken to decrease the material footprint of the economy while also accelerating the reduction of GHG emissions.
